NFL 2025 season: Week six

Live coverage features live text for Sunday's games on various channels, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, radio commentary is available through designated networks for a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).

We're in the sixth week of the football calendar , after last week's discussion regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, they both surrendered their unbeaten records.

Notable in those games were the amount of penalties each conceded. Philadelphia committed them in key moments so they essentially defeated themselves having led by two touchdowns going into the final quarter versus Denver, who play in London this weekend.

But it was positive to observe how Denver's QB Bo Nix managed to overcome the shortfall and then lead three successful possessions in three attempts in the fourth quarter, securing the game 21-17.

Denver have the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They rank number one in red zone defence, whereas the Eagles are number one in scoring near the end zone, yet the Broncos prevailed in that contest.

They executed effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They weren't necessarily sending more than four defenders instead they could plug two linebackers in the 'A' gap before withdrawing them and dispatch a nickel from the outside.

At the start in the campaign, we said during a show how the Broncos could be the current year's surprise contenders. They finished last season well and did a good job of building upon that.

Are the Denver Broncos this season's underdog story?

New TE Evan Engram has stepped up significantly and new running back JK Dobbins is a player the team trusts. He now ranks 5th league-wide for rushing yards (402) and tied for fourth in rushing scores (4).

It's impressive that the coach the Broncos' leader displays "RUN IT!" at the top of his playcall sheet.

That shows how the Broncos represent a team that wants to prioritize the run, since you can do a lot based on that approach. It reduces down the pass rush while keeps you in favourable situations.

It's also helped QB Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – second only to a star QB for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).

Josh Allen and Herbert possess the arm strength to throw anywhere, however they lack in the same way that Nix has. He boasts incredible passing ability, a unique trait, and he is highly agile.

His assets include his mobility, being able to pass while moving, and using different arm angles to deliver the pass as he moves outside protection, the bootlegs. He is able to deliver that layered pass over the middle or past defenders.

For a young quarterback, aged 25, he's got a lot of poise in the pocket and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He tries to avoid being tackled as much as possible and can pass in tight spots. He has a high football IQ and is quick to decide.

When you constantly rush it eats up the clock and forces the opponent to stay on the field for longer, and when you have a mobile QB the defense has to defend the area downfield and horizontally. It can be exhausting.

Nix has bitten back at Payton during games sometimes and I think Payton likes that attitude, seeing him as a fierce rival. I think it's fun for the coach to coach a rookie QB who's kind of like play-dough. The coach can truly build something up how he desires to shape him. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.

The head coach has won a Super Bowl and now surpassed a legend for career NFL wins (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed it all. I think the success Denver are having on offence is mostly due to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the combination with Nix aids make him what he is.

You wouldn't want a more qualified person guiding you, to help you through some of the tougher situations and build confidence.

I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. Yet are they strong enough to go against an elite team at its best? Because that was not championship-level play by the Eagles in their last game.

Right now, I don't think Denver are elite. They're working better than most, which is a good place to be in the AFC West. All they need is to continue this trajectory.

They excel at embracing their strength, which is running the ball, and that's precisely what they must do against the New York Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.

The Jets have surrendered 140 yards on the ground per game (sixth worst), five ground scores this season (10th worst), and they're the sole squad yet to win any game.

Since the NFL started recording takeaways in 1933, the Jets are the first team to be without a single takeaway through five games, this is surprising considering that their new coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.

Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.

After this Sunday's game, the Broncos face a smooth-ish schedule up to their bye (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans plus the Raiders before the Chiefs.

Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs hold a losing record while Denver are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could make a run at leading the division.

This hinges upon what version Kansas City shows up they meet since the Broncos {beat|def
