President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.

He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.

White House Invitation

The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Response

Attendees gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support public safety in the capital.

Honoring Beckstrom

“She was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”

Legal Actions and Government Adjustments

Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The event led the administration to pause asylum applications and halt granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to speak to the family.

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with excellence, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
