This Special Release Pokémon Card Seeks to Curb the Influence On Resellers

Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique partnership is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop stocked with exclusive items. Enthusiasts can look forward to products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the institution's theme. The big draw, though, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. The store is scheduled from on-site at the museum to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology Behind the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome packed with stunning illustrations that show creatures in their natural habitats. The concept like the kind of research a Pokémon Professor could produce after trainers submit their data, or what Charles Darwin might have created if the famous islands were populated by flying-types rather than birds. A key appeal stems from the book's scholarly approach, presenting Pokémon as a legitimate scientific inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

Why This Special Card Different

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release promos celebrating big events and brand collaborations. A lot such promotional cards typically highlight the iconic electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this latest promotion apart however, is the unusually large size. While precise specs were not immediately shared, its distribution is guaranteed to be highly restricted, with fans limited to just one card per purchase.

Per a company announcement, a portion of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the museum walls. But, broader availability will only be select retailers in the UK. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire this promo via the official web shop. While reseller interest is a given, it appears they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. If you're unable to attend, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display headed to the Windy City later this year.

"All profits from purchases made in the Museum shop and from its online store, which covers Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists who are scientific inquiry to discover answers to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
