The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
