The Gruesome Cartoon Film Ending That Haunts Fans
Among every adult-oriented animated films I’ve personally viewed, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the dread-soaked finale of the explicitly bloody as well as highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker created a grim, melancholy , often savage world that included several minor , forlorn twinges of hope.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from an impulse to advance animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was more an attempt to communicate a widespread, cross-cultural message concerning “the mutual source of each battle.”
That message is conveyed by means of a squad of vividly colored bears , obviously inspired by a famous series of cuddly characters.
Being raised in a community centered on warmongering as well as the defense industry, a lot of these creatures are fixated on killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text that tells them they were once masters of the forest, before these creatures drove them out.
A few haven’t fully accepted the indoctrination, , would rather sample substances or engage sexually in the woods.
In contrast to their cuddly equivalents, these colorful critters display genitals , obvious urges.
For a particular particularly cruel, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the war against unicorns transforms into a road to power — and specifically to dominance above his softer, kinder brother Tubby.
Bluey behaves aggressively , an apparent psychopath , and as terror overcomes his squad and kills his teammates individually, he seizes progressively influence personally, via progressively bloody, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the horned creatures are suffering their own nightmare, through a growing, harmful creature in their forest.
“At the beginning, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker commented. “But then it evolves into a more serious and melancholic movie. And by the end, it’s a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the more playful features from a legendary animator, that discover a naughty glee in letting drawn beings curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Subsequently it becomes more akin to a more grim work from the same creator, with increasingly visual gore , a noticeable link to the actual tragedy of war.
Ultimately, it’s a full-on extreme drama bloodbath.
The fear that turns the film an ideal spooky-season movie starts well before than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated gorehounds, for fans of graphic films who wish to view something they haven’t ever watched previously, and are able to withstand a story that pulls unflinching brutality.
See it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the finale will dig into your mind and stay with you.
