The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a TTRPG that explores the franchise’s apocalyptic setting. The project was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to begin in April of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the tabletop, offering fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an announcement.
Initial offerings are set to feature a beginner's box, essential manuals, a GM screen, figurines, and various deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was released in New York City, plunging the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups emerge, turning the urban landscape into a warzone. To restore order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Work on the game has been in progress for approximately several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a preorder system to access a wider market, particularly in North America. Manufacturing will start right after the campaign, with deliveries projected for the latter part of 2026.
An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules confirms it uses d10s exclusively through its new GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic style. Players leverage abilities to assemble a handful of dice, typically between one and five d10s.
- Rather than adding results together, participants choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This die is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Combat Focus On Positioning and Awareness
Fights prioritize positioning and situational awareness, reflecting the source material. Elements like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight have a direct impact dice rolls. This system is designed to favor teamwork and smart positioning instead of raw numbers.
A Novel Wound Mechanic
The way injuries is managed introduces a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At critical condition, an operative is downed, but they’re not unconscious.
- They can still crawl and take limited actions, emulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
- Any player in this state must consult a injury chart, potentially gaining persistent effects like trauma or mobility-impairing wounds.
An Introductory Adventure
A free introductory rulebook is promised soon. It includes a pre-made starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an attack by the notorious Rikers gang, who have taken over that Manhattan district. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be unveiled closer to the campaign launch.
