Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with results like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
