Jurgen Klopp states coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.

The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to his interviewer: “I stated I refuse to lead another team within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, so the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding the specific conditions would need to occur to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.

“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear as an instance.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea of it representing a slump.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”

Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward

The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact for the team. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother this past summer.

“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
