France has agreed to start stopping small boats in the Channel, after an extended period of pressure from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift follows the Prime Minister wrote to the President asking him to support the plan and stating there currently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French security forces have been authorized to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their migrants, according to authoritative statements.

French authorities have infrequently intervened to stop the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered excessively high a risk to both personnel and individuals.

"It is crucial that we implement these tactics this month... We have no effective prevention in the Channel waters."

Now, a French maritime police spokesperson says personnel will start taking action at sea, with the aim of safeguarding lives.

Significantly, the spokesperson excluded the use of entanglement devices to stop boats, which had earlier been reported as a potential technique to snarl the engines of the vessels.

The decision to take action at all is a significant advancement, following a short-lived change towards a more aggressive strategy this summer, which dropped off when the former government official left office.

That was highlighted in the summer month, in the run-up to a summit between the UK leader and French president, when French police were witnessed wading into the sea to slash the hulls of a boat.

Now French officials will once more be permitted to stop boats prior to they collect migrant passengers from the coastal areas of France's north coast, although it's not clear how the vessels will be stopped.

Strong winds are currently delaying the commencement of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be seeking methods to adapt to avoid detection, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and Downing Street have been contacted for comment.
