Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Each team includes just 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
